Krylon Fusion All-In-One Spray Paint & Primer

4.6$9

The go-to spray for tricky outdoor surfaces: its 5X adhesion sticks to plastic, resin and wicker without sanding or priming, coats intricate weave without brush marks, and is rust-protective and outdoor-rated. The trade-offs are real, though - each can covers only about 25 sq ft so a whole set gets pricey, it needs a full week to cure before heavy use, and on high-flex plastic it can eventually chip at stress points.

Rust-Oleum Professional High Performance Protective Enamel

4.6$22

An industrial-strength brush-on enamel for the metal that takes real abuse, like railings, gates, and structural steel. The tough oil-based alkyd resists rust and weather, and buying it by the quart or gallon makes it the economical choice for large surfaces, as long as you can tolerate the solvent odor and slow cure.

Coverage~110-120 sq ft/qt
Dry timeDry to touch ~2-4 hr; recoat within 1 hr or after 48 hr

Our verdict

Match the tool to the shape and size of the piece. Choose a spray like Krylon Fusion All-In-One for anything intricate - wicker, wrought iron, spindled chairs, railings - where a brush leaves marks and can't reach the weave, and for slick plastic and resin it bonds without priming. Choose a brush-on enamel like Rust-Oleum Professional High Performance for large flat surfaces such as tabletops, benches and gates, where a quart or gallon is far cheaper per square foot and lays a thicker, more abrasion-resistant film in one or two coats. Spray wins on ease, detail and adhesion to tricky surfaces but costs more per coverage and needs careful masking; brush wins on cost, film build and control on big areas but shows marks and demands mineral-spirit cleanup. Many people use both - spray the frames and weave, brush the broad flats.
